Methodology & sources
This page compiles publicly available official statistics, mainly from Thailand’s Ministry of Tourism and Sports; the sources for every figure are listed below. Key caveats:
- Latest data. The 2025 arrivals series is the Ministry’s provisional (“P”) data as at 1 January 2026 (32,974,321 arrivals); the 2026 release revises June 2025 by a handful of arrivals. 2026 January–September figures are provisional (as at 1 October 2026). The 2025 receipts figure (฿1,587,208 million) is the survey-based annual summary released on 26 June 2026, which replaced the first estimate of ฿1.54 trillion published in January 2026.
- What counts as an arrival. Arrivals are foreign nationals entering Thailand, counted per trip and by nationality (not country of residence). They include same-day visitors: of 35,545,714 arrivals in 2024, the Tourism Satellite Account classes 34,290,889 as tourists and 1,254,825 as excursionists.
- Historical series. Earlier years come from the Ministry’s annual receipts summaries (2019 as revised in October 2020). 2021 is omitted: its official figures cover only business and leisure arrivals, and its receipts include spending by visitors who arrived before 2021.
- Nominal values. Baht figures are in cash terms and are not adjusted for inflation or exchange-rate changes.
- Occupancy and domestic data. Occupancy is the room-occupancy rate across registered accommodation establishments for all guests, Thai and foreign, from the Ministry’s revised (“R”) 2025 domestic tourism statistics. Guest arrivals count check-ins, not individual people.
- Economic impact. Tourism direct GDP and employment come from the Tourism Satellite Account (fiscal-year 2025 report), which covers 2024. The employment figure is total employment in tourism industries, not only jobs supported by visitor spending. No official purpose-of-visit split or attraction visitor counts are used, so those sections are omitted rather than estimated.
